General   Information

The library of Oman College of Management and Technology tries to cope with the dramatic development of the library concept and modern terminology in the library science, and technological achievement in the field of computers and internet as a main course of information. The college takes serious steps to provide the library with various types of books and references to be available for the staff and students. The college also classifies the references systematically so that every one can borrow and return them easily. Besides supplying the library with modern computers and internet, the collage has its own electronic library including 100.000 items of different subjects, references and periodicals in various fields of knowledge. This, of course, will enable the staff and the students to use them easily.The library is affiliated with the Yarmouk University Electronic library (EBSCO), and keeps contact with the international libraries for maintaining the library content of scientific books and periodicals. The college also enriches the library with useful references in both languages Arabic and English. This is done by successful efforts made during many visits to international and local book exhibitions, such as Muscat book exhibition. On the other hand, the selection of books is carried out in a way that the staff members can have chances to take part in choosing subjects that fulfils the students’ requirements.The library also participates in many international and specialized periodicals related to subjects taught at the college.The college is dedicated to providing the most useful sources of knowledge and cultures, and makes them available for every one.

Library Facilities

The library offers good services to the staff, students, and citizens and graduates who keep contact with the library. These services include the followings:

Books Borrowing

  • Students should use their identification cards to borrow the books they need.

  • Students can borrow two books for two weeks, and can renew this for a similar duration.

  • A staff member can borrow ten books for two weeks, and can re-borrow them for further period of time.

  • Any member of the administrative departments can borrow only two books for one month.

  • It is not allowed for the student to borrow new books unless he/she returns the previously borrowed ones.

  • References, periodicals, rare books, documents, bibliographies, printed films, cassettes and CDs cannot be borrowed, but this can be possible only in certain cases decided by the Librarian.

  • A fine of one hundred Bases should be paid by each student for each day of delay.

  • Reservation of books is made where borrowers can reserve text books that can be used by the staff. These can be borrowed for one day only.

  • The librarian has the right to ask the borrower to return any book at any time, or prevent borrowing if necessary. 

  • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference books, M.A theses, postgraduate projects, researches, atlases and periodicals can be used only inside the library.

  • Unprinted subjects can be used , but they can be borrowed for three days if there are additional copies for each subject

Guidance and Reference Services

Librarians can help and guide users to the right shelves of reference books and periodicals. They can also help to have access to the internet.

Data Services 

At the beginning of each semester, the library issues a guide on how to use the library and make use of all its properties. The library also issues periodical publications including Arabic and English books and other bibliographical publications.

The Electronic Library (Internet Lab)

The college library has established an Electronic library (Internet Lab) .The lab is equipped with modern computers so as to facilitate the task of electronic research. Besides, the Data section is responsible for supervising the process of research, and providing all services to the staff and students.

Internet and Data Service

Training courses are organized for both the staff and the students at the beginning of each semester. These courses are on using the internet, and keeping in touch with the available Data rules, so as to help researchers make their papers, reports and statistical data. In addition, the electronic library has brought pictures illustrating how to use internet to help students get the information about computer science management. The lab supervisor guides students to have an access to the internet.

The CDs and Disks 

The library provides CDs and floppy disks attached to books and references. They comprise scientific and educational encyclopedia of soft programs. A form of research is designed to be used only by the staff member, then the process of research and record of the results can be done, e- mail them, or print and send them to the users. All services are free.

The Teaching Lab 

The lap is designed to take 30 students .It is supplied with modern computers equipped with an operator for CD drive. Computers are logged with some pedagogical programs such as Dewey Decimal System. The classification of the Congress , Anglo – American rules of cataloguing are available for the users .Other  facilities such as TVs, Videos, Over – head projectors and films are also available for the students who can use them for different purposes.

The library opens from 8-00 a.m. to 7-30 p.m. except Thursday and Friday.
