OCMT Staff Induction and Orientation Programme 2020-2021

15 th - 17 th September 2020

The Staff Induction and Orientation Programme at OCMT was a fascinating experience, extended over a period of three days, sit-down session amidst staff, mentors, leaders etc. A day, where our mentors and leaders shared their expertise with with all staff and especially the newly joined staff. It was a hands-on inquiring, promoting session to a continued support to foster teaching through exploration and exchange of ideas. It provided a firm pillar to the novice staff at the threshold of new communion. 

Day One - 15 th September 2020 

The First Day Session augmented with a welcome note from our respected Dean,Prof. Dr.Waleed Hmedat, who stated that OCMT was amongst the first few colleges in the Sultanate to have introduced E-learning programme to its students and staff during the pandemic. He initiated the Induction process with brilliance and ceaseless efforts with goal affirming inputs and management strategies. It included prospectives for on-campus classes for students enrolled in the General Foundation Programme Department. He re-enforced the idea that all necessary departmental notification to the respective students’ groups will be executed /monitored according to the COVID-19 protocol, well in advance. The Dean, accentuated on career advancement, encouraging the need for ‘Good Quality Research’ that lends job enrichment and credibility to the researchers at a workplace. The experienced and novice Academic Staff were asked to support the successful fulfilment of standards drawn by the college.

 In the second session, the Code of Practice and Omani Community were highlighted by Dr.Mohammed AlAzawi (Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs). Also, talking about the Organizational Structure of the college, he apprized that OCMT has a fixed organizational structure and committees that brings out the relevance of a relationship between the various departments and authority in concern. All college documents such as policies, regulations,annual plans and reports,and strategic plan are shared in one folder which can be utilised for sharing and viewing among users in various departments as informed by Dr. Mohammed Mastan - Coordinator of Scientific Research and Staff Development Unit. Ms. Suha AlAwaisi - HOD HR Department, explained that the college makes it compulsory for all staff members to comply with all regulations and bylaws.


Day Two- 16 th September 2020 

The Staff Induction Program on the second day commenced by greetings from the college dean, Prof. Dr. Waleed Hmedat followed by an elaborate session on “Academic Staff Role & Evaluation,” conducted by Dr. Mohammed Al Azawi. In this session, he explained the components of the Staff Workload and Appraisal Forms and stressed the need to be very specific while filling them, stating that these forms are the key performing indicators of an employee.Mr. Louay AlNeaimi the OJT officer while talking about “On Job Training,” explained the vision, mission and objectives and gave a comprehensive view of its proceedings. The next session was on “Community & Industry Engagement” where the HOD of the AFS Department and chair of Industry and Community Engagement committee Dr. Raef Abdennadher emphasised that service to the community is service to mankind and interpreted that this would advocate connection between people inside OCMT and the Omani community outside, helping to evolve relationships, nurturing skills and talents to render Oman a strong pedestal for Global Education. Accentuating on research activity, Dr. Mohammad Al Azawi and Dr. Mohammad Mastan from CSMIS Department urged the staff members to enrol and join various research databases, journals and associations like Scopus, Publon, Google Scholar, Research Gate etc. They also proposed the importance of maintaining Academic Integrity while fostering research activities. Ms.Fatma Al Naamani and Mr.BassamTariq from Technical Support Department gave a presentation on IT Services within OCMT and explained in detail the relevance of the Internet services, VDI System, Plagiarism detector, E- Library, Online Advising system, OCMT help desk usage, Teams. The day concluded with the much-awaited activity of electing the Academic and Administrative Staff Representatives.

Day Three - 17 th September 2020 

The concluding day of the Staff Induction Programme flagged off by the salutations from Dr. Mohammad Al Azawi (Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs). Mr. Biju Koshi briefed the staff about college Quality Assurance Accreditation Program and explained that every member has the responsibility of maintaining quality at work, upholding the vision and mission of the college. Laying a well-defined and pragmatic Strategic Plan, Dr. Baby Thomas, divulged the vision, mission, goals and objectives for the year 2020 to 2025. The three-day Induction Program consummated by the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mohammad Al Azawi. These programmes play a critical role to accelerate the goals designed to help new hires reach the expected competency, standards, thus ensuring they are more yielding and productive in a short time, thereby fulfilling institution’s objectives.
